The District began construction this month on the Contra Costa Canal Levee Elimination & Flood Protection Project Segments 3 & 4. This project increases flood protection, enhances public safety and security, and prevents degradation of water quality from groundwater intrusion. The project replaces five segments, totaling four miles, of unlined Contra Costa Canal with a buried 10-foot diameter reinforced concrete pipeline. The first two segments have been completed. Construction for segments 3 & 4 are anticipated to be completed in December of this year.
