The 48-mile Contra Costa Canal conveys water through:
School Safety Assemblies
Fishing, swimming, or playing in the canal is very dangerous. That's why the Contra Costa Water District makes one of its professional canal safety patrol officers available for school assemblies.
They speak to children in a friendly and interactive way. Kids listen to stories about how they can have fun on the canal trails without endangering themselves. They learn about a canal rescue, and hear a clear message about the importance of being safe.
This program supplements the Ol' Blue Canal K9 Brochure (PDF) that is given to school children each spring, as well as the Canal Safety Video that appears on this website and on community television. The 30-minute assembly presentation is free of charge for all students within the Contra Costa Water District service area.
Call the Water Education Program at 925-688-8109 to schedule an assembly at your school.
We'll bring our Canal Patrol Officers and our new canal safety video featuring Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin to your school.
