Michael Romo of Oakley’s 24.42 pound catch was able to remain on top to win our month-long striper derby at Los Vaqueros.
His catch, the largest seen at LV in quite some time, was more than double the size of the second-place fish, San Jose’s David Bustos' 10.02 pounder.
What’s most interesting about the final results is that the top three fish were all caught in different locations, and different ways, a swim bait, hair raiser fly, and an anchovy. Also, there was a big drop-off in the size of the fish after the first two were caught.
In all, we had 145 anglers enter the competition, the first for stripers at Los Vaqueros.
1st Place: Michael Romo from Oakley. 24.42lb, 40" striper. Caught in Penninsula Cove on swim bait.
2nd Place: David Bustos from San Jose. 10.02lb, 29.5" striper. Caught in Cox Cove on a hair raiser fly.
3rd Place: Mike Loeffler of San Jose. 3.71lb, 24.5" striper. Caught in Cowboy Cove with an Anchovy.
