It’s a Dry Year in California: What You Need to Know

The typically cool and wet months are making way for warmer weather without much rain or snow to show for it. By early April, precipitation in the Northern Sierra was just over 50% of average for that time of year. The dry year meant Contra Costa Water District was given only 55% of item normal water allocation by the federal government. (As of May 26, 2021, CCWD's allocation was reduced from 55% to 25%.)

Despite these dry conditions, we can meet your water needs in 2021 thanks to wise investments in storage like Los Vaqueros Reservoir as well as all the improvements in water efficiency you have made over the years. Los Vaqueros storage as of April 1, 2021 is 79% full.

Cycles of heavy rainfall and drought are a part of living in California and all water users play a part in ensuring we have enough water in storage to get through these dry periods. Help us use our precious water supplies wisely by getting the most out of every drop.

Contra Costa Water District offers water efficiency rebates, resources, and workshops for its customers. Find out how you can get the most value out of every drop at ccwater.com/conserve.
